Assessment
The lack of water for irrigation created significant challenges for local agriculture, resulting in reduced crop yields and financial instability for farmers. Irregular electricity supply, characterized by frequent power cuts and load shedding, disrupted daily life and reduced productivity, impacting businesses and households. This inconsistency also caused problems for schools and anganwadis, where the absence of reliable power complicated educational activities and basic needs like lighting. These issues collectively hindered community development and had the potential to lead to broader social and economic problems.
Intervention
Padharwadi Village in Khed Taluka has made key improvements with solar energy. Households now use solar homelight solutions for portable lighting and mobile charging. The village has installed a 7.5HP solar pumping system for lift irrigation, ensuring a steady water supply for agriculture and drinking. Community Solar Filtration units purify water, providing clean drinking water for everyone. The ZP Primary School uses a 450-watt solar system to power lights, a fan, and an electrical outlet, while the ICDS center operates with a 40-watt solar system for its basic lighting and fan needs. These solar solutions bring stability, sustainability, and improved living conditions to the village.
Impact
With the recent improvements, life in Padharwadi Village in Khed Taluka is better. Families have consistent lighting at home, making it easier to study or work after dark, and they can charge their mobile phones more reliably. Farmers have a stable source of water for their crops, boosting agricultural productivity. The entire community enjoys cleaner, safer drinking water, leading to better health. The village school now has regular electricity for lights and fans, creating a more comfortable and effective learning environment for children. Similarly, the ICDS center offers a more pleasant and functional space for young children. Overall, these changes bring more stability, safety, and opportunities for the village.
